In a very occasional series on superior shopfronts, here’s Lina Stores in Soho, established in 1944.

Especially like is the awning and the green and black colour scheme.

Spring is in the air and festival season not long around the corner.

Here’s a few food trucks to whet the appetite. All brands whatever their purpose could follow this model for some pop up retail.

Wahaca Food Truck, Southbank London

Shuck Truck, the obligatory converted Airstream, but this time selling oysters. Originally from Coolhunting, more on their website cabincoveoysters.com

Del Popolo Food Truck, a wood burning oven on wheels, originally from the very excellent Fox is Black.

M Local by Morrisons

A ‘fresh street corner supermarket’ for Morrisons new M Local concept in Ilkley West Yorkshire.

Of particular note, a large use of fresh (some might say Asda) green and a very architectural girder or two that run through the space.

'Market fresh' produce with ubiquitous hand written blackboard graphics, one day someone will actually write these kind of things by hand

Very nice Mexican café. So much time and energy has gone into this and a fantastic use of colour and type. Just goes to show you don’t need supersize product images to get your style and flavour across.

For those amongst you that are semiotically inclined, here’s The Noun Project. A great resource for pictograms with a nice old school slant. Some of them are very reminiscent of British Rail pictograms pre their redesign by Lloyd Northover in 1999. And they’re free, and downloadable, definitely worth bookmarking.

A new book by Unit Editions, to give it it’s full title Supergraphics. Transforming Space: Graphic Design for Walls, Buildings & Spaces.

Supergraphics is the name of an architectural movement from the 1960s and 70s that saw architects attempt to ‘remove solidity, gravity, even history’ by the simple act of applying paint and graphics to the interior and exterior surfaces of buildings.

Cox Cookies & Cake

Patrick Cox opened a new venture in Soho on Tuesday. Cox Cookies & Cake takes the current trend for all things cup cake/indulgence and adds a big dose of Soho neon chic.

The website as yet isn’t live but shows the intent with an animated neon identity, and thank goodness for a sign up form.
