Apparently 800,000 commuters pass through the station every day.

A Food Truck Compendium

Spring is in the air and festival season not long around the corner.

Here’s a few food trucks to whet the appetite. All brands whatever their purpose could follow this model for some pop up retail.

Wahaca Food Truck, Southbank London

Shuck Truck, the obligatory converted Airstream, but this time selling oysters. Originally from Coolhunting, more on their website cabincoveoysters.com

Del Popolo Food Truck, a wood burning oven on wheels, originally from the very excellent Fox is Black.

Cupcakes in Abu Dhabi

Via a submission, London based carbon, have recently completed a project in Abu Dhabi for Bloomsbury’s.

A free standing cupcake kiosk in Al Wahda Mall. The architecture and components were designed as a ‘kit of parts’ so the design can work for roll out locations across the Middle East and India.

Vintage Tesco

Even Tesco is getting in on the vintage act. Their store at Goodwood Revival harks back to the 60’s complete with retro packaging and hairdo’s.

Coming to Shoreditch, London in August 2011 is Boxpark. A pop up mall of 60 containers on two floors located opposite the Tea Building.

More information and a nice little video on the Boxpark website. Definitely worth a visit in the summer to what should be an interesting and original addition to Shoreditch.

The Luncheonette

The idea of the luncheonette (officially a long counter with stools where the patron is served from the other side of the counter) has always really appealed to me. The romance of solitude and a cup of coffee and eggs over easy. Whilst looking at John Wright’s photography site I saw luncheonette in the background of one of the shots. 2 mins of google searching later and I arrived at the All Star Lanes website with images of their luncheonette at Brick Lane. Also on their site a look at their pop up stand and finally for true luncheonette flavour the external sign of Hinsch from the very fine flickr photostream of Whiskeygonebad.
