Thorntons – New Store Design http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2012/02/20/thorntons-new-store-design/ http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2012/02/20/thorntons-new-store-design/#comments Mon, 20 Feb 2012 14:30:51 +0000 http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/?p=972 Towards the end of last year our new concept design for Thorntons opened in Birmingham.

More bling, more product talk and more emphasis on Thorntons enormous product range.

The perimeter (shown here in the Christmas scheme) uses a magnetic paper background to provide an easily changeable backdrop for promotions and events. Self selection is more prominent as is a more elaborate gift wrapping service. Lighting is much more detailed and ranges from overhead ceiling rafts to shelf level product lighting.

More blurb on our website.

The Luncheonette http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2010/08/13/the-luncheonette/ http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2010/08/13/the-luncheonette/#comments Fri, 13 Aug 2010 09:17:53 +0000 http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/?p=601 The idea of the luncheonette (officially a long counter with stools where the patron is served from the other side of the counter) has always really appealed to me. The romance of solitude and a cup of coffee and eggs over easy. Whilst looking at John Wright’s photography site I saw luncheonette in the background of one of the shots. 2 mins of google searching later and I arrived at the All Star Lanes website with images of their luncheonette at Brick Lane. Also on their site a look at their pop up stand and finally for true luncheonette flavour the external sign of Hinsch from the very fine flickr photostream of Whiskeygonebad.

Found, antique, vintage etc. http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2010/08/05/found-antique-vintage-etc/ http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2010/08/05/found-antique-vintage-etc/#comments Thu, 05 Aug 2010 17:56:29 +0000 http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/?p=587 There’s a growing trend towards individuality in larger brand retail taking after what’s been going in the leisure market for a few years. After all why design the same thing over and over again when you can do it differently every time. The modern globe trotting or even just city hopping person perhaps doesn’t want the same environment every time s/he visits the same brand.

One way of changing the environment without watering down the brand is to use found and refurbished objects, fixtures and fittings that are in keeping with the overall brand identity.

Graphics often becomes less important and the objects and furniture more valuable. How this style of retail will stand the test of time I’m not sure, it needs constant reinvention and reiteration to keep it fresh rather than the usual complete refit every five years or so.

New Greggs Prototype Store http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2010/02/26/new-greggs-prototype-store/ http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2010/02/26/new-greggs-prototype-store/#comments Fri, 26 Feb 2010 16:16:47 +0000 http://www.inspiredesignblog.co.uk/?p=212

Just put up a post about the new Greggs Prototype store. It’s a move on for Greggs, fundamentally still the value proposition but in a more contemporary store.

One of the key features is the lighting scheme which uses 100% LED lighting and is the first store in Europe to do so. This halves the energy consumption for the lighting.

More info and pictures on our main website.

More Snog http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2009/08/21/more-snog/ http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/2009/08/21/more-snog/#comments Fri, 21 Aug 2009 06:40:30 +0000 http://inspiredesignblog.co.uk/?p=469 I’ve writtten about Snog on here before and I must admit I keep coming back to it every time we look at a fascia on another job. So now here’s some more pics and even videos at Lighting which has an excellent write up about the lighting scheme.

Also worth having a look at is their kiosk which opened in Westfield on Monday. Not many images online yet but no doubt they’ll start appearing soon, and the van is great too.
